Basically, Velscope allows dentists to detect dysplastic cells or cells that are just beginning to make their transformation into pre-cancerous cells through abnormal fluorescence patterns. This technology has a reputation for being very accurate as well. Velscope's fluorescent methods for detecting oral cancer in oral potentially malignant disorders was 76.9% and 65.4%. Specifically for distinguishing high-risk from low-risk lesions in oral potentially malignant disorders was 50.0% and 82.1%, respectively.
